Officer Wounded, Suspect Killed in Shootout in Farmington

FARMINGTON, Mo. (KMOX) – Investigators are in Farmington, Missouri today after one officer was wounded and the suspect killed during an attempted arrest shortly after midnight.

According to police the 32-year-old suspect was trying to elude a local bail bondsmen when Police were called to an apartment complex on Old Fredicktown Rd. As officers arrived the suspect fired several shot at police before fleeing.

Around 1:33 a.m. officers located the suspect near the intersection of Karsch Blvd. and North Washington using the signal from his cell phone. The suspect was armed with a handgun and was told to drop the weapon. He did not, firing several shots at police striking a St. Francois County Deputy in the leg.

Police then took out the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was transported to a local hospital where he treated for minor injuries.

The name of the suspect will not be released until the next of kin is notified by the St. Francois County Coroner.

Upon the request of the Farmington Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be conducting an investigation into this incident.

Farmington is about an hour’s drive south of St. Louis.
